Baby undergoes surgery after being hit by car in driveway in Hoke County

RAEFORD, N.C. (WNCN) — A baby was hit by a car early Tuesday afternoon in Hoke County.

According to bystanders, the baby was hit by a car backing out of parking area at 433 Martin Drive outside of Raeford, the Aberdeen Times reported.

The child, who was reported to be 12 months old, was hit around 12:30 p.m. and was rushed by Hoke EMS to Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville.

On Wednesday, the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office reported the child was transported from Cape Fear Valley Hospital to UNC Hospital for surgery.

The child has been “responding well since surgery,” according to Hoke County officials.

A 25-year-old woman from Raeford who was visiting the family was the driver of the vehicle involved, officials said. It’s unclear if there will be any charges in the incident.

Hillcrest Fire Department, Hoke County EMS, Hoke County Rescue, Hoke County Sheriff’s Department and the NC State Highway Patrol responded to the incident.
