Dying war veteran gets to say goodbye to beloved horses

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (WFLA) — Staff at a San Antonio, Texas hospital recently helped make the wish of a seriously ill man come true.

Roberto Gonzales was paralyzed from injuries he suffered in the Vietnam War. His health recently declined.

“While he was in the hospital he ended up with a wound in his back and initially that was why we were here to treat his wound but he also had liver problems and then his kidneys started to shut down,” said Roberto’s wife, Rosario Gonzales.

Roberto is one of only a few paralyzed horse trainers in the state of Texas. “Horses are his life. We’ve been training and raising horses for over 30, 40 years,” said Rosario.

Roberto’s dying wish was to see his beloved horses Sugar and Ringo one last time. His family worked with the staff at the hospital to make his wish come true. The result was a very touching reunion.
