NC teen dies in traffic collision with garbage truck

BOILING SPRING LAKES, N.C. (WECT) – A teen died when her vehicle collided with a garbage truck on Highway 87 near Cougar Road on Wednesday morning.

Lily Beatini, 18, of Oak Island, was on her way to South Brunswick High School at the time of the accident, officials said. The accident occurred at approximately 10 a.m.

According to Boiling Spring Lakes Police Chief Brad Shirley, a preliminary investigation indicates that Beatini lost control of her vehicle, over corrected and crossed the center line before colliding with a waste industries truck.

The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Beatini was a senior at South Brunswick High School. According to Brunswick County Schools, crisis team members are onsite to provide support to the students and staff.
