RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A motorcyclist died in a crash with a minivan Wednesday night on US 401/Louisburg Road in Wake County, just south of Rolesville.
The crash happened around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday at U.S. 401 (Louisburg Road) at Forestville Road, according to the N.C. DOT.
A motorcycle and a minivan collided during the wreck and the male motorcyclist died at the scene, the NC State Highway Patrol said at the scene.
According to witnesses and a preliminary assessment, the crash happened when the minivan was headed north on US 401, troopers said. The motorcycle was on Forestville headed east and ran a red light, colliding with the minivan, officials told CBS North Carolina.
The woman driving the minivan was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, according to officials.
Northbound U.S. 401 was closed for about 2 hours, but reopened around 11:15 p.m., according to the N.C. DOT.
