RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – After standing tall since 1963, Brooks Magnet Elementary will be torn down this summer but not before students, staff, parents and alumni get to say goodbye.
Staff has allowed everyone to leave a special note on the walls of the classrooms and hallways. Many of them say simply, “thanks for the memories.”
“I think it’s great,” said Brad Giles, parent of a third grader. “I have looked forward to seeing this. Hopefully it will be here for quite awhile, once the new school is here. It’s nice to be able to leave your mark, and see everybody’s comments.”
Next year, students and staff will be having classes in a different location while the new school is built on the site. It will reopen in 2017.
