Hundreds get into character for Animazement

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Concerts, panels, autograph sessions and lots of costumes. Hundreds of Japanese anime fans are in Raleigh for Animazement.

The four day event is taking place at the Raleigh Convention Center. The Animazement website describes the convention as “an all-volunteer, fan-run anime convention…celebrating popular Japanese visual culture in all of its forms.”

Everyone is welcome to dress up as their favorite character while attending the convention.

The site says the history of Animazement began in 1997, when TAAS (Triangle Area Anime Society) held the first 36-Hour Anime Marathon event.

All props must be approved by Animazement staff and some items are forbidden such as steel and metal objects as well as projectile weapons, paddles, baseball bats, skateboards and hoverboards.
