RAEFORD, N.C. (WNCN) – A Raeford man murdered his wife and then shot himself in an attempt to cover up the crime, the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office said.

On May 31 around 4:15 p.m., Sheryl Dianne Marshall, 36, was found dead by deputies at a residence in the 100 Block Barnsbury Court.

The sheriff’s office said Marshall’s husband, Nicholas Marshall, had previously called authorities about her well being.

A short time later, another call was made that said Nicholas Marshall was shot about five miles away on Pittman Grove Church Road.

Nicholas Marshall had driven himself to a fire station and asked for help.

The Sheriff’s Office said an intense investigation revealed Nicholas Marshall killed his wife and then shot himself to cover up the murder.

Friday, Nicholas Marshall, 31, was charged with first-degree murder.

The sheriff’s office did not release Nicholas Marshall’s bond amount.
