APEX, N.C. (WNCN) – Apex police arrested two men in connection with a Thursday evening shooting off Raleigh Boulevard.
ARound 5:15 p.m., Apex police asked residents in the area of Tingen Road and Apex Peakway to stay indoors during the search for the suspects. Police attempted to arrest the suspects but officials said they ran to a girlfriend’s apartment.
“We didn’t know what the suspects had. So, to be safe for the community it was best that everybody shelter in place,” said Capt. Ann Stephens with Apex police.
Around 7:30 p.m., police arrested Marcus Anthony Greene, 17, and Shelton Dion Amerson, 20, in connection with the shooting of a 21-year-old man on North Raleigh Boulevard Thursday.
The shooting victim was transported to WakeMed for treatment of a gunshot wound to the chest.
Raleigh police said the shooting was not a random act.
Greene was wanted for with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and with discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.
Amerson was wanted for aiding and abetting assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
Neighbors report seeing heavily armed police officers in the area.
“I’ve been seeing the police out here. The SWAT team just went into the bottom apartments,” said neighbor Marshika Mangum-Judd.
Aaliyah Sidney said she was worried about the children in the neighborhood amid the situation.
“And, I’m scared for the children because they’re out here and they’re playing and it’s just all this chaos,” Sidney said.
Police were able to apprehend the men without any one being injured.
“It just takes time to assimilate a special response team, to get them here, to get a plan, to make sure that we’re doing it as safely as possible for all the surrounding residents,” Stephens said.
