OAK ISLAND, N.C. (WECT) – Children and adults alike were surprised when they saw a baby Wallaby, or joey, hopping down the coast of Oak Island.
According to Southport Oak Island Chamber of Commerce-Welcome Center’s Facebook, the joey is on vacation with its owner from Florida.
The joey’s name is Boomer and his owner, Bobbie Jo Abrams, owns a small petting zoo in Pinetops. Boomer was originally from a breeder in Florida, according to Bethany Barnes with the zoo.
When the joey was being naughty Abrams would put Boomer in her purse or her “pouch.”
