COLINGTON, N.C. (WAVY) – A man initially arrested in a domestic case is now also accused of assaulting a Dare County deputy.
On June 2, the Dare County Sheriff’s deputy responded to a call in Colington. The deputy assessed the situation and took 24-year-old Josiah Gwatkins into custody.
On the way to jail, Gwatkins managed to get his handcuffed hands in front of him and began punching the deputy, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The deputy was not injured.
Gwatkins was charged with communicating threats, damage to personal property, assault on a government official, and one felony count of assault by strangulation.
