RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Three separate crashes on the Raleigh Beltline created massive traffic problems on Tuesday afternoon — with huge back-ups happening from a wreck at Western Blvd.
The most serious wreck happened near Hillsborough Street and Exit 2 (Western Blvd) at 4:25 p.m. and closed all outer Beltline lanes, which are westbound.
That wreck, which hurt one person and involved four vehicles, caused traffic to back up several miles — all the way to Glenwood Ave.
Around 5:15 p.m., crews were working to repair pavement that buckled on I-440 where the crash happened near Western Blvd.
“That issue has necessitated immediate repairs by the N.C. Department of Transportation and the closure of I-440’s westbound lanes,” Raleigh Police said.
The lanes reopened by around 8:30 p.m..
The first wreck happened around 3 p.m. on westbound I-440 near Lassiter Mill Road, according to the NC DOT.
Two of four lanes were closed because of the crash, which is also caused eastbound traffic to slow and back up for more than a mile past Wake Forest Road
Another crash happened around 4 p.m. in westbound lanes Near US-1, which is Capital Blvd.
