CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – A man was arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of his elderly wife Thursday.
James Nelson Norris, 82, is charged in the death of his wife, Charlene Ellen Norris, 79.
Police said just before 9 a.m. they received a call for service from a home on the 7900 block of Langford Court in east Charlotte. When they arrived, they found Charlene Norris deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.
James Norris voluntarily went with detectives to police headquarters where he was interviews and charged. Police have not said what may have led to the shooting.
Neighbors in the area said they were shocked to hear the news.
“Things happen. I don’t know why but things do happen. Just being next door to this I never would expect that,” said neighbor Paris Legette.
She said the home on Langford Court was always quiet, and she rarely noticed an elderly woman at the residence.
“Someone would come in and out and check and even a caretaker would come in and out and check. That’s basically all I’ve ever seen. I’ve never seen anything else,” said Legette.
Other neighbors told WBTV they had seen the elderly couple out and about, but never noticed any signs of a problem.
