APEX, N.C. (WNCN)- The Apex Police Department is rolling out items for its third-annual yard sale.
Saturday morning, area residents can make their purchase and help a good cause.
Proceeds from the yard sale will benefit SafeCHILD; it’s a non-profit organization that works with local police departments to provide free medical exams and counseling to children who’ve been abused.
Without SafeCHILD’s support, these departments or the victim’s family would have to foot the bill – sometimes upwards of $1,500.
“I think it’s great,” said Cpt. Ann Stephens, the yard sale organizer, who was choking back tears when describing the program. “I think a lot of times victims get lost in the shuffle in the court system and don’t get the after care they need because they can’t afford it or their insurance doesn’t cover it so I think it’s great there are organizations who are willing to see the victim long term.
The yard sale is Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 55 and Mason Street. It is cash and carry only.
