NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – One person is dead after a truck hit a parked dump truck in New Hanover County.
The call came in just before 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
A truck identified as a 2015 Dodge Ram hit a dump truck that was parked on The Cape Boulevard just off of Carolina Beach Road.
One person was killed, according to Trooper Ballard with Highway Patrol.
The driver, Christopher Lee Humbert, fled the scene on foot. He was shortly found and arrested.
Trooper Ballard said Humbert is charged with felony death by vehicle, driving while intoxicated, failure to maintain lane control, and careless and reckless operation.
New Hanover County reports additional charges of reckless driving to endanger and resist/delay/obstruct public officers as well as felony death by vehicle and DWI.
He is being held under three separate bonds of $150,000, $1,000 and $500.
The person killed in the crash has not been identified yet.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing; the crash is not being classified as a ‘hit-and-run’ until the investigations has concluded. Humbert’s toxicology results also are still pending.
Humbert is 41 years old and from Virginia Beach. He suffered minor injuries in that crash.
