CARY, N.C. (WNCN) – The principal of East Cary Middle School was arrested this weekend and charged with possession of stolen goods in a matter the principal insists was a mistake.
Nikia Nicole Davis, 38, of Knightdale, was arrested at RDU International Airport.
After the incident, Davis sent a letter to parents at the school explaining what happened. She said she was at the airport picking up her father when an officer pulled her for an expired registration.
“He then informed me that the license plate on my vehicle matched a stolen vehicle from Fayetteville,” Davis wrote.
“You can imagine how distressed I was over this news. The vehicle I was driving is not a stolen vehicle, and is, in fact, the car that I have owned for 6 years. I can only surmise that someone had switched the plates.”
Davis said she was not at the school on Monday so she could clear up the situation.
Wake County Schools spokeswoman Lisa Luten said the school district is aware of the situation and believes Davis was not at fault. Luten said Davis would remain employed by the school system.
