NC shark attack victim recovers at home as vacationers still hit the water

Beachgoers in Atlantic Beach still hit the water after shark attack Saturday.

ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. (WNCT) – 18-year-old Dillon Bowen says he’s at home after getting bit by a small shark in Atlantic Beach on Saturday.

WNCT spoke with him over the phone and he told us that he’s focusing on recovery.

He was bit in about waist deep water and received numerous stitches to his right hand and wrist after being transported to Carteret Healthcare in Morehead City.

Beachgoers still braved the waves at Atlantic Beach Sunday after a shark bite left one teen injured Saturday.

Vacationers say they’re not letting anything stop them from hitting the beach.

“For me personally the chances of getting attacked by a shark are the same as getting struck by lightning so I don’t really think about it,” Ricky Butler said, adding that beachgoers should realize that sharks do live in the water and there is always a possibility of getting bit.
