LAKE NORMAN, N.C. (WBTV) – One person has died after drowning in Lake Norman Sunday evening.
Officials initially reported that they had rescued the swimmer who was being treated for life-threatening injuries.
The drowning happened in Lake Norman off of Island Forest Drive. The Huntersville Fire Department tweeted that the person was recovered after an estimated 10 minutes underwater.
Cornelius police say the person was taken to the hospital after rescue crews cared for the patient on scene. After so many boat-related incidents in the past few weeks, officers say this incident did not involve a boat, however it is the third death in Lake Norman in the last week.
The other two victims included Captain Bradley Long and Isia Cruz, a 29-year-old swimmer who went missing Sunday. Long, a rescue diver, died Monday while searching for the body of Isia Cruz in Lake Norman.
Few other details are known about what led to this incident. Cornelius police are investigating.
