CARY, N.C. (WNCN) – Cary police said five suspects forced their way into a home Thursday morning and later then forced a victim to withdraw money from an ATM.
Around 2 a.m., the suspects entered the home in the 400 block of Sandy Whispers Place, which is located just northwest of the N.C. Highway 55 and N.C. Highway 540 interchange.
The suspects held two adults at gunpoint inside the home while another adult was forced to withdraw money from a local ATM, police said.
The suspects stole electronics, jewelry, handbags and wallets before driving off in a victim’s 2013 blue Ford Explorer with North Carolina license number CLA-5098.
A series of 911 calls were made following the incident.
“Four or five guys they break open the back door and they came in with the guns and they almost stayed for two hours, I guess,” a caller told a 911 dispatcher. “They had really big guns.”
Police said the victims received minor injuries during the course of the incident.
Cary police said the victims were not target but this was a crime of opportunity.
“It’s really surprising. I mean its a really quiet neighborhood. Good people. You don’t really expect something like this to happen like that here,” said neighbor Chad Thompson.
The suspects are believed to be between the ages of 18 and 35.
They were all wearing masks and dark clothing.
Anyone near the area during the time of the incident is encouraged to contact the Town of Cary Police Department at (919) 469-4012 or file a report anonymously with Cary Crime Stoppers at (919) 460-4636. Crime Stoppers pays up to $1,500 for the arrest or indictment of those responsible for committing certain types of crimes. All calls will be kept CONFIDENTIAL at the caller’s request.
