DURHAM N.C. (WNCN) – The North Carolina NAACP chapter is asking the Department of Justice to investigate a 17-year-old’s death after he was found hanging from a swing set in 2014
Lennon Lacy was discovered hanging from a swing set in Bladenboro, North Carolina, on Aug. 29, 2014.
Thursday, the United States Attorney’s Office announced that following its investigation into the death of Lacy, there is no evidence to pursue federal criminal civil rights charges.
A news release from the U.S. Department of Justice reads, “After a careful and thorough review by a team of experienced federal prosecutors and FBI agents, the Justice Department found no evidence to suggest that Lacy’s death was a homicide.”
The North Carolina NAACP, along with Lacy’s mother, rejects that it was a suicide and are asking for a further review by the DOJ of the circumstances surrounding his death.
