SOUTHPORT, N.C. (WECT) — The Southport Fire Department has decided to pull all three firearms, including the Palmetto AR-15, from their fundraising raffle, Southport Fire Chief Todd Coring said Saturday night.
The firearms were a part of a fundraising effort to raise money for the Firefighter’s Freedom Competition.
AR-15s, along with other assault-style rifles, have become a hot topic since the mass shooting in Orlando.
Three cash prizes have replaced the firearms in the raffle, which was started months ago, officials said.
A total of 1,200 tickets have been printed for the raffle, and they will be sold for $10 each.
Other prizes originally included a Savage Arms rifle, a Mossberg shotgun, a Yeti cooler and a 60 inch TV.
