HOPE MILLS, N.C. (WNCN) — A Hope Mills man is facing child sex charges after deputies say he sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl relative.
The incident was first reported and an investigation began in early April when the little girl ran away from her home, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
Oliver Shawndell Bragg, 42, of Round Grove Place in Hope Mills, is charged with first degree statutory sexual offense with a child and indecent liberties with a child, according to Cumberland County deputies.
The girl told authorities that the suspect “had been engaging in sexual intercourse with her since she was in the 7th grade,” according to a press release from deputies.
On Friday, April 8, the minor victim disclosed to a social worker from Brunswick County Department of Social Services that Bragg also forced her to stimulate his genitals for sexual gratification, deputies said.
“Oliver Bragg was 39 years old or 26 years 9 months and 25 days older than the minor victim,” officials said.
Bragg is being held in the Cumberland County Jail on a $100,000 secured bond.
