SPRING HOPE, N.C. (WNCN) – A drug roundup in Nash County resulted in about 20 arrests Monday morning and more are expected in the next few days.
The drug roundup is called “Operation Spring Cleaning” and it got underway early Monday morning.
Multiple agencies are taking part in the roundup, which is focused predominately in the Spring Hope community.
CBS North Carolina’s David Hurst went along with investigators as they went to the suspects’ homes to serve warrants and take them into custody.
In just two hours, deputies were able to arrest about 20 people.
Nash County Sheriff Keith Stone said the arrests are a result of a year-long investigation and has to do with more than just drugs.
“Guns, gangs and drugs are a problem in every community and as we just had a murder last week associated with the same type of behavior…it’s a serious problem and we need to rid our communities of it,” he said.
More arrests are expected throughout the day and into tomorrow.
Stone said drugs, especially heroin, are a big problem in the community. He said this roundup may be significant in helping those issues.
