RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – The Helping Hand Mission in Raleigh has been busy handing out fans to elderly and needy members of the community.

But its supply has not been able to meet the demand.

The mission has actually had to turn away people in need. With the scorching summer heat on the way, more fans are needed.

“I’ll tell you what, its been rough. It’s been rough and I feel like I’m the town crier. I feel like I’m delivering some bad messages to people that call in but you know, there ain’t a thing we can do about it if we don’t have fans,” said Sylvia Wiggins, executive director of Helping Hands Mission.

The fans are given out to the most serious cases first but anyone who cannot afford a fan is able to pick up one.

Donations can be dropped off at the Helping Hand Mission’s Rock Quarry Road location from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week.
