ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) — A tractor-trailer carrying potatoes spilled its load after it was involved in a crash on Wednesday in Elizabeth City.
The crash happened just before noon at Halstead Boulevard and and Peartree Road.
Captain John Young with Elizabeth City Police told WAVY-TV that it appears the truck simply split in half and caved in.
Most of the thousands of spilled potatoes came out of the front of the trailer, which appeared to split apart near where it connects to the truck hauling it.
Several people crowded around to help pick up the potatoes and a tractor was also brought in to help clean up, according to photos from the scene.
No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported.
