CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – One of two people shot in southeast Charlotte early Monday morning has died.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say the two were shot on Wheatley Avenue around 1:30 a.m. and drove themselves to Novant Presbyterian Hospital, where they crashed into the emergency room.
One of the victims, 19-year-old Markas Vereen, was pronounced dead by ER staff, CMPD says. His family has been notified of his death.
Police say Vereen was shot in the head and the other victim was shot in the leg.
CMPD is continuing to investigate the shooting and asks anyone with information to call detectives at 704-432-TIPS or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
