Raleigh City Council denies anti-abortion group’s rezoning request

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – The Raleigh City Council denied a rezoning request that would have allowed an anti-abortion clinic to move next door an abortion clinic on Jones Franklin Road.

A Hand of Hope Pregnancy Resource Center’s request to operate out of a residence next to Preferred Women’s Health Center was denied by the council during Tuesday’s meeting.

The two establishments are currently located less than a mile apart.

The anti-abortion group bought the residential-zoned property in 2015.

In April, A Preferred Health Center said the rezoning of the property will bring more harassment and scrutiny to its patients and staff.

In a statement, the Center said the move is an intimidation tactic and will not change anyone’s personal beliefs.

“A Preferred Women’s Health Center does not support the underhanded tactics of Hand of Hope or its associates,” the statement read. “However, if granted, it will cause disruption and difficulties for not only our business, but for our neighbors as well.”
