2 men seriously injured in fiery Wendell crash

WENDELL, N.C. (WNCN) – Two men were seriously injured when their SUV hit a drainage pipe, flipped over and caught fire Saturday morning in Wendell, emergency officials said.

The crash occurred around 9:45 a.m. in the 600 block of Old Zebulon Road near Lu Tom Lane.

According to Wendell fire and EMS officials, the SUV ran off the right side of the road and hit a drain pipe, flipped over and caught fire. The vehicle was still on fire when firefighters arrived on scene.

Two men were taken to WakeMed with serious injuries.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is currently investigating the wreck.
