FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – A video posted on Facebook showing a couple praying outside the Fayetteville Police Department on Friday now has more than 120,000 views.

The video was posted by Brandon Akins on Friday afternoon and showed a couple, Michael Wilder II and Brionna Wilder, praying in front of the police department.

According to Akins’ post, the Wilders went to the police department and asked to speak “with the Chief of Police or the highest ranking officer in the building.”

The person at the front desk told the couple that they were on duty and unavailable. Michael Wilder then told the staff member “I just wanted to pray over them, I’m worried about their safety and want to thank them for their service in the community,” the post said.

The Wilders then went outside to the front of the station where they prayed.

The video has since received more than 120,000 views and hundreds of shares.

“I wasn’t expecting all of this at all when we woke up,” Brionna Wilder told CBS North Carolina on Saturday.

Before praying on Friday, the Wilders felt completely different emotions earlier in the week when Alton Sterling and Philando Castile were killed.

“Why does this keep happening… why is that every time that we turn around this is the new norm in America,” dad Michael Wilder told CBS North Carolina.

Michael Wilder says he was feeling anger and frustration…then Thursday night happened when five Dallas police officers were killed in an ambush.

He says he feels God called him to go to the police department to pray — something he’s never done before and was completely out of his comfort zone.

“And I told my wife about it and she was like ‘What… it’s kind of odd’,” Michael Wilder said.

“I thought it was a crazy idea, and definitely awkward, but the Lord does the rest,” Brionna Wilder said.

Michael, Brionna Wilder and their son Jaxson prayed for the Fayetteville Police.

What made it more awkward was Fayetteville police said there was no one they could speak with, so it was just the three of them on the sidewalk praying.

Eventually others, including some officers, joined their small sign of support and now the video of their prayer has been seen by thousands.

Michael, who is also a sergeant in the US Army, says he wanted to show law enforcement his support and hopefully help bring the country back together.

“Share that light on the world and be the positive change that God has called us to be,” he said.

Although the Wilders did not get to speak with members of the police department on Friday, that will change.

On Monday when they’re not only going to sit down with officials at the police department but the mayor so they can pray together.

This comes in the wake of the shooting in Dallas, Texas that killed five officers and injured seven others.

The Fayetteville Police Department reported on Friday that they had received more than 60 threats in the immediate aftermath of the Dallas shooting.
