Take precaution in oppressive heat, doctor says

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – With Thursday expected to be the hottest day of the week, doctors say to take extra precautions when outdoors.

Drinking plenty of fluids and applying sunscreen is heavily recommended.

Doctors warn even those accustomed to working outdoors can end up in the emergency room if they don’t play it safe.

“It’s incredibly hot just walking out there to your car. So these folks that are out there doing manual labor, they are going to sweat a whole lot more. They are going to lose water at an increased rate,” said Dr. Damian McHugh of UNC REX Healthcare.

Keeping up with forecast changes is important to stay ahead of the heat.
