MOORESVILLE, N.C. (WBTV) – A 55-year-old man wanted in the death of his elderly mother in Mooresville has been arrested.
Michael Reid Frye is charged in the killing of his mother, identified by family members as 79-year-old Barabara Frye. The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that Michael Frye was arrested and being held without bond.
Iredell County deputies said they were called Monday to the 300 block of Alexander Acres where they found Barbara Frye suffering from serious injuries. She was rushed to a local hospital, but died from her injuries, officials say.
Bonnie Smith, a niece of the victim, said she had been living at the Frye’s home on Alexander Acres for the past couple of years and said she had been caring for Barbara Frye.
Smith said that she found Barbara Frye’s body beaten and bloodied Monday morning.
“I walked into a nightmare,” Smith said. “I mean she was just in terrible shape.”
She said the elder, Frye, was rushed to the hospital, but would later die of her injuries.
Smith said that Michael Frye was acting hateful toward his mother on Sunday night, but she said that behavior was nothing new. She said she was still shocked that her family member was killed.
“I just couldn’t believe it really happened,” Smith said. “I can’t believe she’s not gonna be here. I’m not gonna go in and take care of her.”
Michael Frye has mental issues, according to Smith, but she said she still wants him behind bars.
“I want him to pay for what he did,” Smith said. “We can never get her back, but he is dangerous.”
Michael Frye was believed to be driving a silver 2004 Toyota Rav4 with NC plate ECJ-6391.
