Training camps opened for NFL teams today with the Carolina Panthers kicking off practice in Spartanburg, South Carolina and the Washington Redskins taking the year’s first snap in Richmond, Virginia.
Triangle football fans can get to Richmond in about two and a half hours and to Spartanburg in just under four hours.
The Panthers training camp lasts until Aug. 16 at Wofford College while the Redskins camp lasts until Aug. 14 at the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center behind the Science Museum.
All training camp practices are free and open to the public with each practice session lasting about two hours. Please be aware that practice times and lengths are subject to change without notice.
In downtown Spartanburg, sister station WSPA found that local businesses are also getting ready for Panthers’ fans.
At Wild Wing Cafe, they have a banner up welcoming fans to stop by. “Wings and beer, you can’t go wrong,” said Wild Wing General Manager Tom Litteral of the offerings. He says each year the crowds get bigger and bigger. “It’s gonna be fun, wings, and wide open, so we are ready and excited, so bring me on Panthers, let’s go!”
Some places like Dottie’s Toffee and Health in Hand are offering 10% discounts to people who show up wearing their Panthers gear.
