WAKE FOREST, N.C. (WNCN) — A 14-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run in Wake Forest Friday night, officials said.
A portion of Burlington Mills Road from Danforeshire Way to Night Heron Drive was temporarily closed due to the accident Friday night.
The incident happened around 9 p.m. when the boy was in the middle of the street, officials said.
“We had a 14-year-old that was in the middle of the roadway, he was in the westbound lane. He was squatting down, in what was described as was kind of doing a crab crawl, like you see a lot of kids will do. Why he was doing that at that time, we really don’t know, but a black, large SUV vehicle came along and ran over the child,” Lt. Jeff Gordon of the NC Highway Patrol told CBS North Carolina.
“… we have very limited information on the description of the vehicle with the exception it was a black SUV,” Gordon said in an email.
As of Saturday afternoon, the boy was still in serious condition.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
