WAKE FOREST, N.C. (WNCN) – A man was seriously injured when a van took off and led Wake Forest Police in a chase and then wrecked on Saturday night, officials say.

The incident happened around 9:45 p.m. and involved two vehicles in the crash at Dr. Calvin Jones Highway/98 Bypass and S. Main Street in Wake Forest, officials said.

The chase began when a van driver ran a red light at Ligon Mill near Rogers Road, said Town of Wake Forest spokesman Bill Crabtree.

The van kept going and tried to run another red light at the South Main Street and the 98 Bypass, Crabtree said.

At that red light, the van was hit by a truck that was traveling east, Crabtree said.

The driver of the van was sent to WakeMed for treatment of serious injuries, a North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper said.

The N.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
