RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A Cary man already charged in several indecent exposures is now charged in one police say happened in Raleigh earlier this week.
Cary police first started looking for the suspect after they say he exposed his private parts to a clerk in a party store in Cary on Monday.
Christopher Vincent Sumrell, 25, of Ribbon Lane in Cary was arrested on Wednesday night, but Cary police said he was involved in similar incidents at five other businesses throughout town since January.
Now, Raleigh Police say that Sumrell made “contact” with a woman in a Raleigh store on Tuesday while he was exposing his private parts.
That Raleigh incident happened at a business at 5655 Western Boulevard and because of the contact, Sumrell is now also charged with sexual battery, police said.
“While the victim was not physically injured, the nature of the physical contact the suspect had with her led to the second charge of sexual battery,” Raleigh police said in an email.
Cary police said that surveillance video of the man in the party store exposure helped bring in tips that led to Sumrell’s arrest.
Police say Sumrell exposed himself at these Cary businesses:
Lynn’s Party Plus – 1335 Kildaire Farm Road
VOM FASS – 316 Colonades Way
Stein Mart – 240 Crossroads Blvd.
Sleepy’s Mattress Firm, 8204 Tryon Woods Drive
Petco – 416 Crossroads Blvd.
Pier 1 Imports – 1819 Walnut St.
Sumrell was charged in Raleigh on Friday morning with indecent exposure and sexual battery in Raleigh, police said.
Records show Raleigh police arrested Sumrell in September 2014 and Wake County Sheriff’s deputies arrested him in February 2014 on indecent exposure charges.
And he was also arrested on the same charges in March 2013, but those charges were dismissed without leave.
