Truck driver charged after 5 hurt in hit-and-run crash in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — A truck crashed into a passenger car and then drove off in Fayetteville on Sunday, injuring five people in the car, police say.

The incident happened at about 3:49 p.m. at the intersection of Rim Road and the Food Lion Shopping Center located at 8175 Cliffdale Road, Fayetteville Police said in an email.

The crash involved a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta and a 2013 Dodge Ram.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the Dodge Ram struck the Volkswagen Jetta as the Volkswagen Jetta was preparing to leave the parking lot of the shopping center at the Rim Road exit,” police said.

“The driver of the Dodge Ram then drove away from the scene, police added.

The Dodge Ram and the driver were located a short distance away by Fayetteville police, officials said.

The occupants of the Jetta were transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for evaluation and treatment, police said.

Four of the occupants were listed in stable condition and one was listed in critical condition. All five were later released from the hospital.

The driver of the Dodge Ram, Terrell Thompson, 31, of the 900 block of Hunt Place in Fayetteville is being charged with careless and reckless driving and hit and run, police said.

Thompson was arrested and taken to the Cumberland County Detention Center and held on a $20,000 secured bond.
