NC man charged in murder of his aunt, sheriff says

PINK HILL, N.C. (WNCN) —  Lenoir County Sheriff’s department have arrested a man in connection to a body that was found on Saturday.

Deputies responded to the 600 block of West Pleasant HIll Road around 9:30 a.m. for reports of a dead body.

Trudy Smith was found inside her home dead. Deputies arrested her nephew 35-year old David Lee in New Bern on Saturday and charged him with murder.

No motive or cause of death has been determined.

Smith’s family was devastated by her death, but said they are thankful for thoughts from the community..

“The outpouring of love and support for our family in just one day has been nothing short of amazing!,” the family wrote on Facebook. “We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the continued love we know you will keep sending our way.”

The family said that Howard-Carter Funeral Home would be handling funeral arrangements.

Lee is being held at the Lenoir County Jail without bond.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office at 252-559-6140.
