RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A man in a wheelchair and another man were hit by a car and went to the hospital on Tuesday, according to Raleigh Police.
Officers responded to the scene of the crash around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday at Oberlin Road at the intersection of Smallwood Drive.
Police said that Andrew Stephen Martin, 72, of Raleigh was turning his Volvo onto Oberlin Road and failed to yield to pedestrians in the incident near Harris-Teeter at Cameron Village.
Martin hit 60-year-old Carlton Mack Watson while he was in a wheelchair and 47-year-old Yusuf Nour as they were going across a designated crosswalk under a “walk” signal, according to police.
Both victims, who live in Raleigh, were transported to Rex Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police charged Martin with Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid a Person.
