BESSEMER CITY, NC (WBTV) – A search for a missing 3-year-old Gaston County girl that was underway for much Monday will resume Tuesday morning.
Gaston County 911 got the call just after 3:30 p.m. that Jordan Ann Dumont was missing. Crews then began looking for her on and around the 1900 block of Bess Town Road, near Ruthaven Drive, in Bessemer City.
Officials suspended the search Monday night, and are set to resume again at 8 a.m. Tuesday. Neighbors in the area used flashlights to continue searching for the girl through the night.
Officials said Dumont’s caretaker, identified only as her mother’s boyfriend, had last seen the young girl around 1 p.m., and notified authorities when he realized she was missing.
Police said they believe the boyfriend was asleep, and that Dumont was one of two children in the home. The other child is accounted for.
Dumont is described as a white female, 3’2″ tall with shoulder-length curly blonde hair and blue/green eyes. She was last seen wearing blue jean shorts and a long sleeve Mickey or Minnie Mouse shirt.
Multiple agencies and a police helicopter searched for Dumont until around 10:30 p.m. when the search was called off for the night. The search will resume first thing Tuesday morning.
Gaston County Police Chief Joseph Ramey updated the media throughout the night regarding the search.
“Considering the age of the child, I would have liked to have found something more concrete,” said Ramey at the end of the evening.
Dozens of locals also showed up at the search site wanting to help the police find the little girl.
“If that was my daughter, I’d want everybody out here helping too and it’s just we hope for the best and hope nothing has happened to this little girl,” said neighbor Kelly Hardee.
Ramey issued a plea to anyone passing through the area in the coming days to keep a watchful eye out for Dumont.
“Please be on the lookout for this little child. If you see something suspicious or anything at all that may lead us to believe that it is Jordan, please give us a call,” said Ramey.
Anyone with information is asked to call Gaston County Communications at 704-866-3300.
