DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — The body of a Durham taxi driver who was murdered last week, is on its way to Sudan.
Ameer Suliman was shot and killed Thursday in front of the La Quinta Inn and Suites.
The cab driver had plans to be back home in Sudan to attend his brother’s wedding.
Suliman’s parents requested that his body be sent to them.
A local mosque in Durham says it’s important to make sure that happens.
“To feel like, you know, now the son is near her, even if he’s dead, but, it’s also one of our customs back home in Sudan,” said Adil Aziz, a friend and organizer of the trip.
Three people have been charged in Suliman’s death.
Organizers have created a GoFundMe page to raise $3,000 for the trip at www.gofundme.com/ameersuliman
