FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.(WNCN) — Drivers who travel from Fayetteville to Spring Lake will run into some heavy traffic on Bragg Boulevard on Wednesday.
Starting at 10 a.m., northbound lanes along Bragg Boulevard, starting at Randolph Street, will be closed.
Motorists will now be re-routed to Murchison Road to get to Spring Lake.
“Too many jam up’s, too many wrap arounds, where it would normally take you 15 minutes to get to certain location, now takes you 30-45 minutes,” said cab driver W.C. Thomas.
Thomas, who has driven for a local cab company for 20 years, says current construction along Bragg in Spring Lake is already bad enough.
Fayetteville resident Kenneth McIver says the re-route is good but he fears a lot of people will be thrown off by it.
“Even with the Randolph street being closed off, it’s gonna surprise a lot of people that don’t know about it, because I didn’t know about it either,” he said.
The change comes after years of discussions from Fort Bragg and DOT officials wanting to control traffic through Fort Bragg.
After 9/11 lawmakers said heavy traffic through Bragg was a huge security threat.
Department of transportation officials say nearly 60,000 drivers travel along Bragg Boulevard every day.
“It’s easier now for me,” said Spring Lake resident Ortiz Gilbert. “Before it use to take me 45 minutes to get to work, now it takes 30 minutes.”
