WASHINGTON, N.C. (WNCT) – The father treated at a Greenville hospital after his son drowned at a Washington motel’s pool has died, officials at Vidant Medical Center confirm.
42-year-old Demetrius Emmanuel Palmer Sr. was, at last report, in critical condition. CBS North Carolina’s sister station WNCT learned Thursday afternoon that he’d died.
Multiple EMS crews and police officers responded to the reported drowning at the Days Inn on Carolina Avenue late Monday afternoon, immediately performing CPR on him and the boy’s father.
The child, identified as 10-year-old Demetrius Emmanuel Palmer Jr., was taken to Vidant Beaufort Hospital and was pronounced dead shortly after, said Washington Fire Chief Robbie Rose.
The boy’s father nearly drowned in the incident and was flown to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville for treatment, where he later died.
