MONROE, N.C. (WBTV) – Two people have been arrested in a drug-related shooting that killed a man in Union County Wednesday evening.
The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. on the 3000 block of Reuben Road, just south of Monroe.
Trenton Lamontez Chambers, 20, and Bentley Winfred Ivey, 18, are both charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 26-year-old David Watson.
Deputies say Chambers and Ivey drove to a home on Reuben Road for a drug transaction. The pair attempted to rob one of the two men in the home and that’s when shots were fired, police say. Ivey and Chambers ran from the scene but deputies found them at a nearby church.
Ivey suffered a gunshot wound and was treated at Carolinas Medican Center-Main.
Deputies say the case remains under investigation.
Anyone with additional information is asked to call the Union County Sheriff’s Office at 704-283-3789.
