GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) – A Goldsboro teen is facing multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder, after his involvement in an armed robbery and shooting at a convenience store in July, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office announced.
Ervin Lee Waters, 19, has been arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and felony breaking and/or entering.
According to authorities, the Handy Mart Store located at 2495 U.S. Highway 13 North in Goldsboro was robbed at gunpoint by three men. Wayne County deputies responded to the store in reference to a call for assistance from the clerk who was closing up the store when the robbery occurred.
The clerk was in the process of closing up shop when the three men approached him and forced him at gunpoint to reenter the store. Surveillance video confirmed the clerk’s account of what happened, authorities said. Once inside, the clerk was held at gunpoint while one of the men went behind the counter and removed lottery tickets and tobacco products. At some point during the robbery, the clerk tried escaping and the suspects began shooting at the clerk, hitting and injuring him.
After a joint investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina Lottery Commission Investigation Department, the sheriff’s office was able to secure an arrest warrant on Aug. 10 for Waters.
Waters was arrested on the morning of Aug. 18 at a home located at 133 Mill Creek Court in Goldsboro, authorities said. He was arrested without incident after he was found in a back bedroom of the home.
Waters is currently being held in the Wayne County Detention Center on a $250,000 secured bond.
Deputies are looking for Tyquellas Jaire Thompson, who has outstanding warrants for his arrest for this incident.
