Coast Guard searches for missing diver from Oak Island

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Coast Guard crews are searching for a missing diver from Oak Island.

The 48-year-old man went missing 30 miles southeast of Cape Fear after reported mechanical issues with his diving equipment and didn’t resurface at approximately 10:50 a.m.

According to Petty Officer, 3rd class Joshua Canup, the watch-standers sector in Wilmington received a report from a ‘Pleasure Craft Atlantis’ boat around 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Small boat crews from Oak Island and Wrightsville Beach, as well as an MH-60 Helicopter from air station Elizabeth City have been searching since shortly after the report came in.

No word on how long the search will continue.
