Fayetteville man sentenced to decades behind bars for rape, kidnapping, sex offenses

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – A Fayetteville man, who was charged and charged in June of 2014, has been found guilty on all charges involving rape, kidnapping and sex offenses.

On Monday, William Yates, 36, was sentenced to 56-70 years in prison. He was found guilty of first degree rape, two counts of first degree sex offense, first degree kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a female, communicating threats, felonious breaking and entering and assault by strangulation.

 

Yates, the jury found, broke into a woman’s home through an unlocked window, sexually attacked her and threatened her with a butcher knife.

The woman told the police that Yates strangled her by putting a towel over her face and mouth from behind.
