NC bicyclist struck by truck avoids serious injury as she jumps from bike

Bike crushed by pickup truck in Southern Pines. Woman on the bike escaped serious injury.

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. – A bicyclist was struck by a pickup truck in Southern Pines Thursday afternoon in the 2900 block of Camp Easter Road around 12:15 p.m., the Aberdeen Times reports.

The adult female was able to jump away from the bicycle at the last minute saving her from serious injury, officials on the scene said. She was transported from the scene by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital with injuries reported as not life threatening.

One lane of Camp Easter Road was closed for an extended time period while the victim was assisted and the accident investigated.

Responding to the accident were units with Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Southern Pines Police Department, and the N.C. State Highway Patrol.

The cause of the wreck is under investigation.
