Jerron Rashad Anderson, 24, is charged with murder and attempted murder in the shooting that killed 20-year-old Mary Elaine Tarr and injured her passenger, a 24-year-old woman.

The man in a relationship with both women, 23-year-old Jalen Marquise Anderson, was charged in the case Monday.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police were called to a fatal crash around 2:55 a.m. on Pineville-Matthews Road at Baybrook Lane when they found Tarr and another woman in the car. Both had been shot.

Medic pronounced Tarr dead on scene. The other woman, a 24-year-old, went to Carolinas Medical Center with serious injuries.

Police said evidence led them to naming Jalen Anderson as a suspect in the case early on. He was arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder, and discharging a firearm into occupied property inflicting serious bodily injury.

Jerron Anderson was arrested Wednesday evening. He voluntarily went to police headquarters after being identified as a suspect in the case.

Investigators later said Jalen Anderson “was in a personal relationship with both female victims.”

Maria Rosario describes herself as Mary Tarr’s adoptive mother, the one she was staying with during the time of Monday morning’s fatal shooting.

“She was a beautiful girl. Mary was a beautiful girl, and was loved by many,“ Rosario said. “That is the most devastating news that any mother can ever face ever have to bear period.”

Rosario confirmed what others have speculated all along, that suspect Jalen Anderson was dating both of the women he’s charged with shooting.

“He’s wasn’t good for her, I knew it. I knew he wasn’t good for her, but she was in love with him,” Rosario said.

“To see Mary caught up in any kind of a situation… that was not her,” she said. “I’ll never have may baby back. She won’t come back.”

Anyone with additional information in the case is asked to call 704-432-TIPS or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
