GARNER, N.C. (WNCN) — A Cumberland County man was struck and killed while crossing I-40 Westbound near exit 306, 70 Business, shortly after 10 p.m., officials say.
The driver stayed on scene and waited for law enforcement to arrive.
According to a preliminary investigation, a 2005 Ford Taurus, operated by a 23-year-old Raleigh man was traveling west on I-40 near Exit 306A when pedestrian, Jonathan Ray Brewster, 42, of Candlebrush Drive, Linden, attempted to cross I-40, said Lt. Jeff Gordon of the NC State Highway Patrol.
Brewster ran into the path of the Ford Taurus resulting in his death, Gordon said.
No charges have been filed at this time.
