DUCK, N.C. (WAVY) — Residents of a Duck subdivision were asked to shelter in place Monday morning as authorities searched for a man involved in a vehicle pursuit.

The shelter in place was lifted around 11 a.m., after it had been in effect for several hours.

Officials say Duck police were overseeing a multi-jurisdictional pursuit for Thomas Jay Corbin, who was reportedly last seen around Canvasback Drive in Duck.

The multi-agency search has been suspended, and Duck police as well as the Duck Sheriff’s Office are continuing the search efforts for Corbin.

Police say he is wanted for possession of a stolen vehicle and fleeing to elude arrest.

Corbin is described as white male with blue eyes and blonde hair, and is said to have been wearing a black baseball hat and a black t-shirt. Police released a former mug shot of Corbin which shows him with a beard, but police say he is apparently clean-shaven now.

People around the Carolina Dunes area of Duck were asked to shelter in place as police searched for Corbin.

Vehicles in the area may be subject to checkpoints, according to officials. Police have not said why they were pursuing Corbin.

Call 911 if you have any information about where he is.
