PORT RICHEY, Fla. (WFLA) – A baby sound asleep inside a Port Richey home was shot during a drive-by and deputies are looking for the person who opened fire.
Investigators rushed to the home in the 7300 block of Westcott Drive around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, when they got a 911 call about multiple shots fired into the home.
The baby girl was sleeping in a front bedroom and was shot once in the wrist, a Pasco County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said. She was taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive, the spokesman said.
Deputies say the shooting does not appear to be random and the mother of the infant is a “documented gang member.”
A large section of the neighborhood is blocked off as the investigation continues.
No arrests have been made and the sheriff’s office hasn’t release a description of the vehicle involved in the incident.
No one else in the home was injured.
